Joint Memorandum Submission by Defender of the People and Polokwane Street Hawkers

The joined march of Defender Of People (DOP) and Polokwane street hawkers started at the SABC precinct today, grievances being that street hawkers are ill-treated for not having permits and also occupation of demarcated areas by foreigners who sell substandard products at low prices. The march went on to picket outside Dada’s World of Hardware where foreigners are employed. The managers were called and addressed by the president of DOP to demand that South Africans be employed. Other stores that were approached is Nesta food, A1 Supermarket, Laduma, and Super Save.

A memorandum was served to the Polokwane Local Municipality, and was received by the acting Executive Mayor Cllr Alfred Moakamela. He acknowledged the memorandum and also stated that the municipality and the mayor must serve the people by ensuring that the laws of this country are obeyed. Moakamedi assured the protestors that He’ll convey the message to the mayoral committee
