South Africa wins Womens African Cup of Nations 2022

Banyana Banyana wins the 2022 Womens African Cup of Nations Final for the first time in front of a packed Prince Moulay Abdallah Stadium when they beat hosts Morocco 2-1

Moroccan striker player Fatima Tagnaout created a few chances in the first 20 minutes, troubling the South African defence duo Noko Matlou and Bambanani Mbane. In the 32nd minute, midfielder Nomvula Kgoale had a long shot free kick attempt just going over the cross bar. In the 35th minute, Hildah Magala almost got a breakthrough as she played a one-two with Jermaine Seoposenwe and ended up in the 18 yard box but Moroccan keeper Khadija Errmichi came out and saved the goal attempt. In the 40th minute had their first goal attempt when striker Rosella Ayane had one-two combination pass with Tagnaout, but Ayane shot just wide of the goal post. Half time ended in 0-0

In the 56th minute, defender Zineb Redouani got injured and had to be substituted. In the 63rd minute, midfielder Hildah Magala finally opened the scoreline when she received a cut through pass from Seoposenwe and calmly slotted it past Moroccan keeper Khadija Errmich. Magala followed up with another goal after a defensive blunder by Nesryne El Chad after a blinding cross from left winger Dhlamini. In the 80th minute, Morocco pulled one goal back after South Africa lost concentration in their defence, and deadly striker Ayane netted past keeper Dlamini after receiving a well timed pass from Tagnaout. It was a tense last ten minutes with nine minutes of added time as the Moroccans roared by the full capacity stadium, put the pressure on the Cosafa giants. South Africa held on to win 2-1
